Always Safe with Dual Drive Technology

Have you ever suffered a computer disaster? Maybe you are thinking of abandoning Windows altogether for a Mac. Before you do, please read on to discover why computers fail, and how HonorPC™ has solved the problem.

Once you have owned a computer for awhile, it amalgamates two things of worth: the computer itself, and your personal files. These usually include videos, pictures, music, documents, and favorite websites.

All conventional computers become corrupted over time, PCs and Macs alike. Click here to read the article “Flashback trojan reportedly controls half a million Macs and counting”. Problems arise from various causes, some malicious in origin, others born of the natural frailties of conventional computers. In either case, the industry tells us to perform maintenance, like defragmentation, registry scans, and virus scans, which include paying for antivirus updates on a regular basis. Is this reasonable? Would it be proper if your mechanic handed you his tools and told you to fix your car? Does any other household electronic product require ongoing maintenance and repeated payments for protection that ultimately fails?

Most computers end up in a landfill within a year of purchase. Most have 100% working hardware at the time of disposal. The environmental impact is devastating, as shown in this 60 Minutes piece.

Why are conventional computers so unreliable? Most computers are discarded because the operating system becomes inoperative. The operating system resides on a hard drive, and consists of thousands of files. A few of those files are periodically modified while you are using the computer. For instance, when you open a file, Windows records the path to that file as an MRU (most recently used). Only a small percentage of Windows files need to be rewritten by Windows in this way, but all of the thousands of Windows files reside on a drive that allows modification (and destruction) of the files.

There are two ways of protecting a computer: Intrusive, and Non-intrusive.

Intrusive: Antivirus software. Like airport security, it’s invasive to the innocent, ineffective against the guilty. The worst of both worlds. Antivirus software wedges itself between you and any file operation, causing your computer to run much slower than it would without antivirus software. Is better security obtained in trade for degraded performance? No. Nearly everyone who has ever suffered a virus attack had antivirus software at the time. Benjamin Franklin said it best in 1775: “If we surrender our liberty in the name of security, we shall have neither.”

Non-intrusive: Whole disk imaging. A disk image is an exact copy of an entire drive. If a problem arises, the copy can be restored, returning the computer to the condition that it was in when the copy was made. Unfortunately, because your personal files are on that drive, any files that you created or modified after the copy was made are lost when the copy is restored. This forces you to make a new disk image every time you create or modify your personal files. In addition to being a time-consuming chore, the newer disk image will suffer from the increasing staleness of the operating system, and may eventually include an undetected virus.

The Patented HonorPC™ Solution: Dual Drive Technology™

An HonorPC™ has a drive that contains the Windows 7 operating system; it’s Drive “C” just as with a conventional computer. However, all of the standard locations for your personal files are on a separate drive, called Drive “D”. When you click any of these locations, like Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos, you are actually accessing Drive “D”. You don’t have to treat an HonorPC™ differently than any other Windows 7 computer; your HonorPC™ instinctively “knows” that your files belong on Drive “D”. Your HonorPC™ is equipped with a recovery system called the Panic Button. With one keystroke, the entire “C” drive is restored from a pristine copy, bringing it to its brand new condition. You never have to update the copy of Drive “C”, because your files are stored on Drive “D”, not Drive “C”. No virus can access the hidden copy of Drive “C”, so no antivirus software is required to protect the operating system. The Panic Button uses its own operating system. Even if Windows won’t start, the Panic Button will, and your HonorPC™ will be as new in about two minutes. Your personal files and bookmarks remain untouched.
